Shaolin Monastery: South Gate
Northern Wei Dynasty (386-535 AD) & later
Founded in 477 AD, Ŧ Xiaowen (471-499 AD)
Comments: The first monastery's abbot was Batuo (Buddhabhadra)
a dhyana master who came to China from India in 464 to spread the
Buddhist teachings. The monastery is long famous for its association
with Chinese martial arts and particularly with the Shaolin Kung Fu.
