Amenhotep II Mortuary Temple: "Memnon Colossi"
New Kingdom, XVIII Dynasty (1550-1292 BC)
Ŧ Amenhotep III (1391-1353 BC)
Comments: Two colossal statues originally stood in front of the tem-
ple's entrance pylon. Memnon, the mythical king of Ethiopia, was the son of the goddess Eos (Dawn). One of the colossi, being a much ero-
ded statue, used to generate a sound at dawn, interpreted as "singing".
