Uxmal, State Yucatán, México Governor House: Double-jaguar throne Terminal Classic (800-900 AD) 900-910 AD, Ŧ Chaan Chac K'ak'nal Ajaw (890-910 AD) |
Comments: Mayan lords identified themselves with the jaguar. They used its pelt for royal clothing and for the covers of cushions, bags and books. In this case the ruler's throne - the symbol of ultimate power was fashioned in the shape of double jaguars (see similar in relief). |
