Comments: This red granite, 23 meters high obelisk once marked the entrance to the Luxor Temple. The viceroy of Egypt, Muhammad Ali (1805-1848), presented it to France in 1829. King Louis-Philippe (1830- 1848) had it placed in the centre of Place de la Concorde in 1833. |
